Medications are available in many generic forms, which can make it difficult to identify them. You can identify the medication if there is a recognizable imprint on the tablet or a printed word or number on a capsule. It is important to know how to identify medications, especially if you live with others or have several types of medication that you need to take.

Look through the last pages of your book. Most pill identification books will have a photo index of several hundred types of pills.

Locate the pill by looking for a distinguishing mark, color, shape and size.

Go to the page of the pill you located for more information on the medication that you found. Dispose of the medication if it isn't yours.

Read over the Terms of Use disclaimer. Click "I agree" if you wish to continue.

Fill out the fields in the short form that is provided. Type any imprint, exactly as it appears on the pill, in the corresponding box.

Click on the search button to allow the site to pull up information on the pill you have. Read over that information and decide whether you need to throw the medication out.
