Like most cellular phones, Apple's iPhone comes with a SIM card. The SIM card allows the owner of the phone to activate the phone with cellular service and store data, such as contacts. The SIM card in an iPhone may need to be removed for various reasons, most commonly when sending the phone to the manufacturer for repair.
Things You'll Need
- SIM card-eject tool
Insert the long end of the SIM card-eject tool into the small hole on the top of the iPhone. The SIM card-eject tool comes with the purchase of every new iPhone. The tool is located inside the iPhone box, just as the charger and earphones are.
Press the SIM card tool into the hole until the SIM card tray pops up from the phone. It will rise just enough so that you are able to grab the SIM tray and pull it completely out of the phone.
Press the SIM card up from underneath the tray to completely remove it from the tray.
Tips & Warnings
- If you do not have a SIM card-eject tool, a metal paper clip can also be used to eject the SIM card from and iPhone. Take one end of the paper clip and bend it so that it forms a straight line. Insert the straight end of the paper clip into the hole just as if it were the iPhone eject tool.
- Do not leave your SIM card in your phone if you are having it repaired by the manufacturer. Do not stick anything other than the SIM card tool or paper clip into the hole on the top of the iPhone. Doing this might result in something breaking off inside the hole.
