Make this denim shower curtain to add country charm to your bathroom decor. It works well in a family bathroom or as a functional accessory in a boy's western cowboy bathroom. The simple construction will allow this shower curtain to hang in front of a liner, and the denim is durable material that is ideal for a room that will experience moisture and humidity. Recycle old blue jeans to add accents to the shower curtain and provide a rustic look.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut two lengths of the denim fabric 37 inches wide by 74 inches long. Place the two pieces together with their right sides facing. Pin on one 74-inch edge. Using a denim or heavy-duty sewing needle on your sewing machine, sew the pinned edge using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Open the sewn denim and press the seam flat. This is the vertical middle of your shower curtain. Your denim will now measure 73 inches along the top and bottom edges and 74 inches on each side edge.

  2. Step 2

Fold 1/2 inch to the wrong side of the shower curtain on a 74-inch edge and press. Fold over another 1/2 inch, press and pin. Repeat on the other 74-inch edge. Sew the pinned edges. Fold 1/2 inch to the wrong side of the shower curtain on the top edge and press. Fold another 1/2-inch, press and pin. Repeat on the bottom edge. Sew the pinned edges.

  3. Step 3

Cut around the back pockets from two pairs of old blue jeans. Cut through the seat of the jeans and next to the edge of the pockets. Lay your shower curtain on your work surface with the right side up. Measure from the left edge of the shower curtain 12 inches to the right and 36 inches up from the bottom edge. Pin a back pocket at this measurement. Measure over another 12 inches and pin another pocket. Repeat two more times. Topstitch on the sides and bottom edge of each back pocket. Do not stitch the tops of the pockets closed. These pockets will function as a place to put extra washcloths, razors and anything else you may forget until you are in the shower.

  4. Step 4

Cut the seams from two or three pairs of blue jeans. This is done by cutting on each side of the double stitched seam. Cut 26 lengths of the jean seams 8 inches long. Use more jeans if there aren't enough seams, or cut the hems and the single-stitched seams to create enough 8-inch pieces.

  5. Step 5

Lay the shower curtain on a flat surface with the right side up. Measure down 1 inch from the top edge and, starting at one top corner of the shower curtain, place one end of two cut jean seams on the measurement. The jean seams should be laying next to each other and not overlapping. Pin to hold. Repeat with two more jean seams every 6 inches, ending at the other top corner edge. Topstitch over the pinned ends of the jean seams. Backstitch several times to secure.

  6. Step 6

Separate each pair of attached jean seams and tie in a knot around the shower curtain rod, beside each curtain ring on the shower curtain liner.
