Instructions

  1. Making the Ears

    • 1

Using flexible craft foam, cut out two triangles, one for each ear. The bottom should not be straight, but curved in order to allow you to create a cup shape.

    • 2

For the inner ear, cut faux fur that is approximately the same size as the foam ears. For the outer ear, cut slightly larger so you can fold the edge over.

    • 3

Using your hot glue gun, attach the fur for the inside of the ear first, then attach the fur for the outside of the ear. Fold the excess edges over and glue them down. Allow to this cool.

    • 4

Put your headband on and decide where you want to place your ears before gluing them on. Mark these spots.

    • 5

Glue the ears to the headband by making sure you put the glue on the outside corner. This gives your ears a natural curve. Once you've attached both ears, let them dry.

    Making the Tail

    • 6

Decide how long you want your tail to be and whether or not you want it to be flexible, stiff or floppy. Flexible, bendable tails require an interior core that is flexible, such as wire. Stiff tails are built around dowels. Floppy tails do not require any core at all.

    • 7

Wrap off the end of your fabric and hot glue it to form a tube. Insert your core of choice to insure that your fabric still covers the core following your gluing.

    • 8

Pack your tail around your core. Pull the core out and pack the very end before putting the core back and packing the tail up its entire length.

    • 9

Attach your tail to your choice of holder. This tail can be glued onto a belt, sewn onto pants or a ribbon, or tied off and held together by a ribbon or string.

Tips & Warnings

  • A wire hanger can be used to create the core for your tail. Just bend the edges so that they do not poke through.

  • Faux fur can be purchased from most fabric or craft stores.

  • A man's money clip can be used as an attachment for your tail.

  • Hot glue will burn. Take care to avoid injury.
