How to Clear Plugged Ears After Infection

According to the Mayo Clinic, ear infections are the most common infection found in children. Although an ear infection can affect anyone at any age, children are the most prone to an ear infection because of their rapid development. Once the ear infection is cured, your ears may remain plugged. There are both medical and natural ways to unclog your ears effectively.

Take medication to alleviate any pressure built up from congestion. Take an antihistamine if you have congestion from allergies. Take a decongestant if you are experiencing pressure throughout the head, particularly in the ears and sinus cavities. Combine the antihistamine and decongestant, if needed, to assist the body in reducing swelling in the ear due to congestion.

Eat raw garlic to provide the body with natural antibiotics. Buy fresh garlic from a grocery store. Take one clove and crush it with a fork 15 minutes before you ingest it. Place it on a spoon and cover it in honey so it goes down easier. Eat the entirety of the crushed clove. Repeat this three times a day for seven days after the infection is gone.

    • 3

Use an anti-inflammatory pain reliever to assist with alleviating any pain, while reducing inflammation that may have been caused by the infection. Take aspirin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen or naproxen to relieve pain and reduce inflammation at the same time.

Use hydrogen peroxide to loosen any excess wax and other debris. Lie on your side. Have a friend pour peroxide into your ear and let it fill up. Let it sit in the ear for one minute. Turn over and dump out the peroxide in the ear. Repeat on the other side and continue this routine daily until the ear pressure is relieved.
