Finish this quick and easy tutu in time for the royal ball.

Creating a quick and easy no-sew tutu requires little more than a quick trip to the craft store and less than an hour of hands-on time. This tutu project uses ordinary satin ribbon and tulle found in the wedding section of your local crafts store; simply select your little girl's favorite color ribbon and coordinating colors of tulle. There are no limits to the variety of colors that can be combined in a single tutu.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your little girl's waist and leg length. Note these measurements before you begin cutting.

    • 2

Add 12 to 14 inches to the waist measurement and cut the satin ribbon accordingly. The extra length will not only give you plenty of ribbon for a pretty bow, but it will allow the tutu to grow with your little girl.

    • 3

Cut lengths of tulle that are double the measured leg length. For example, if you measured a 15-inch leg length, you will cut strips of tulle that are 30 inches long. For every inch of your little girl's waist measurement, cut three strips of tulle.

    • 4

Lay out the satin ribbon, loop a strip of tulle around the ribbon starting six to eight inches from the end and tie in a double knot. You should now have two lengths of tulle hanging from the ribbon.

    • 5

Repeat Step 4 with the remaining strips of tulle until there are six to eight inches of ribbon left. Use alternating colors to create patterns and unique color combinations. Cut more strips of tulle, if needed.

    • 6

Embellish and decorate your little girl's tutu. Tie strips of ribbon throughout the tulle, spray the edges of the tutu with non-toxic glitter spray, or hot glue or wire on flower decorations to the waistband.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use tulle that is at least six inches wide.

  • Cut the ends of the strips of tulle to form a triangular tip for a pixy-like finished look.

  • Make the strips of tulle longer or shorter for differing styles.

  • Do not let children attempt this craft without adult supervision.
