Celebrate Thanksgiving this year with your children by making Native American headdresses. While making these fun and simple headresses with your children you can share the story of the 1st Thanksgiving that occurred with the Pilgrims and the Native Americans. Children of all ages will enjoy creating a headdress they can wear this Thanksgiving!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Red craft feathers
  • Orange craft feathers
  • Brown craft feathers
  • White craft feathers
  • Scissors
  • Stapler
  • Paper bags
  • Markers
  1. Step 1

The first step in making a Native American headdress this Thanksgiving with your children is to make a band for their head. Take the paper bag and cut a long strip from it. Wrap the paper bag strip around your child's head. Remove it from your child's head. Then staple it to fit your child's head.

  2. Step 2

Next, to make this Thanksgiving craft you will need to have your child pick out an arrangement of craft feathers for their Native American headdress. They can do all red feathers, orange feathers, or white feathers or a combination of all the colors.

  3. Step 3

Once they have picked out the feathers they want for their Native American headdress, help them staple the feathers to the back of the brown paper bag band. If children are not old enough to use the stapler, you can do this step for them.

  4. Step 4

Finally, allow your children to decorate their Thanksgiving headdress with markers or crayons. As soon as they are done decorating it, they can put it on and play dress up!

Tips & Warnings
  • Always supervise children when they are making a Native American Headdress.
  • Do not let young children use the stapler.
