How to Make Headband Slipcovers
If you like to wear headbands, you don't have to buy many different ones. To get different patterns and designs for your headbands, all you need to do is make your own slipcovers for them with different fabrics. You can change the pattern for your headband to match your outfit just by slipping a new cover on your headband. 1
Measure the width of the slipcover by holding the widest part of a headband on the a piece of paper. Double that width and add about one fourth inch more for stitches and mark those widths on your paper. Also measure the length of the headband and apply that length to the paper template with about one half inch added. After you've measured and drawn your template pattern, cut it out.

2
Lay your pattern down on the underside of the fabric you are going to use and trace with a pen. Cut out along the line you have made. It will be best to align your pattern on a corner of your fabric so you don't need to cut too far into it.

3
Lay the piece of fabric you cut out down with the underside facing up. Fold one fourth inch over on each short end and slip in a few pins to hold them and use an iron to flatten them. Run a straight stitch to hem the two ends.
-
4
Fold the piece of fabric in half length-wise with the underside of the fabric facing out so that the two ends line up. Where the two ends meet, measure in at about one fourthinch and slip some pins in to keep them together while you sew. Stick in as many pins as you need to keep the ends aligned perfectly.
-
5
Use a regular straight stitch to sew along the whole length of the headband. If you don't have a sewing machine, you can sew it by hand using small uniform stitches. Make sure you lock the stitches at both ends by going back and forth a few times with the stitches, so the thread doesn't unravel .
-
6
Turn the slip cover right-side-out so that the side you want to show is facing out. Put the slip cover on your headband and you will see that the ends might be a little wider than the headband. Fold the ends inward just a little and sew together so that you don't have a wide piece of fabric on the sides and so the slip cover will stay on better. Make sure that you can still remove the cover before you sew. Alternately, you can sew one end together and use a button on the other end so that you can secure your slipcover.
