How to Remove Paint From an ATV Fender
Removing paint from an ATV fender is tricky. Because the body panels are made from plastic, using paint stripper will damage the fender. For this reason, the old fashioned method is used. You'll need to find a few different grits of sandpaper (they're available at most auto parts stores or at a hardware store) and remove the paint using a method called "wet sanding." Wet sanding will allow you to remove the paint while the water prevents the grit, dust and debris from causing excessive gouging of the plastic.

1
Soak the 600-grit sandpaper in water for a few minutes.
-
2
Sand the fender down. Cover all areas of the fender and continue to keep the sandpaper wet. Be liberal in your use of water. The sandpaper should remain soaked and dripping wet. The area you are sanding should also remain wet.

3
Wipe the fender down with a clean cloth when you've sanded the surface down with the 600-grit sandpaper.
-
4
Soak the 1,000-grit sandpaper in water for several minutes.

Repeat steps 2 and 3 with the 1,000-grit sandpaper. The 1,000-grit sandpaper will smooth out scratches you made using the 600-grit paper. Since the 1,000-grit is finer, it will also smooth out the surface of the fender and prep it for primer and paint.

Wipe the fender down with a clean cloth when you are done with the second sanding. Repeat step 5 until the surface is smooth and all paint has been removed.
