How to Download Music From an iPod to a Computer
A product that has spawned a million accessories and applications, the iPod, put a struggling Apple corporation on its silicon shoulders and brought it back to relevance. Downloading music from the iPod to a personal computer can be tricky, but thankfully Apple has also gifted us with iTunes, the download store and software application that makes this process a little less of a headache.

Attach the iPod to the personal computer using the USB cable provided with the iPod. The USB port is usually found on the front face plate of the computer tower. If a laptop is being used, the port is located on either side of the keypad. Activate iTunes by clicking or double-clicking on its desktop icon. This process will work for the iPod Touch and iPhone but may be less reliable for the nano and shuffle models.

Select the iPod in the iTunes application by clicking on the "info" tab located on the left-hand side of the application. Select which applications to be "synced" from iPod to computer by clicking the respective tabs. In this example, the application is music. According to www.support.apple.com, the settings for the sync system may be adjusted anytime the iPod is connected to the PC. Remember, only one device may be synced at any one time, so simply unplug the already plugged-in iPod for the other device.

In the lower-right corner of the screen, click "apply" to allow the new settings to take effect. A prompt will appear asking to "merge data, replace data on the service, or replace the data on your computer," this will allow the iPod to move song data from itself to the computer and vice versa. Every time the iPod is connected to the computer, it will sync up with iTunes and transfer the music files from one to the other.
