Step 1
Power on your computer.
-
Step 2
Click on the Wi-Fi symbol on the toolbar at the top of the screen. The Wi-Fi symbol looks like a radar icon and is located to the left of the date and time on the top of the screen.
-
Step 3
Select the Wi-Fi network you would like to connect to from the list that appears. Your Mac will show you all of the Wi-Fi networks in your area; if you are in a restaurant, for example, the WiFi network will likely be the name of the establishment you're in. If you are using a router in your home, the router will default to the name of the router company (for example, Linksys). You have the option to rename the network.
-
Step 4
Enter the password for the Wi-Fi network when prompted. If you need a password to connect to the particular Wi-Fi network you select, a box will appear asking you to enter a password. If the network you select is not password protected, then you will be automatically connected. Typically your Mac will automatically save the passwords for Wi-Fi networks you connect to so it can be automatically connected the next time you visit. If you are using a Wi-Fi network outside of your home that is somewhere you plan to frequent, you may want to save a note on your computer with the log-in information for future use.
