How to Rip Youtube Audio (MAC)

AllMyTube and YouTube to MP3 Converter are both Mac applications that you can use to rip audio from YouTube videos. While AllMyTube is a licensed program, YouTube to MP3 Converter is distributed for free. But if you want to avoid software installation all together, you can use a free Web-based service like Video2mp3 to extract soundtracks from YouTube videos. But no matter which method you use, all of these utilities can help you create audio-only versions of any business presentation, company announcement, industry news coverage, panel discussion or commercial that is circulated on YouTube.

AllMyTube

  • Launch an Internet browser and visit the Web page for the YouTube video. Copy the URL to your system clipboard.

  • Download and install AllMyTube. Obtain the application directly from the software developer website (see link in Resources).

  • Launch AllMyTube. Click the “Paste URL” button and the application downloads the online clip to your system. When the YouTube video completely copies over, it is stored within the application “Library.”

  • Select the “Library” tab on the left menu. Locate the listing for the copied YouTube video and click the “Convert” button. A conversion window opens.

  • Open the “Format” drop-down menu and select MP3, M4A, WAV or MKA as the output format for the ripped audio. In the “Where:” section, click the “Change” button and set a saving location.

  • Click “OK.” AllMyTube extracts the YouTube video soundtrack and exports it as a digital media file to your computer. Retrieve the ripped audio from the set saving location.

YouTube to MP3 Converter

  • Launch an Internet browser and visit the Web page for the YouTube video. Copy the URL to your system clipboard.

  • Download and install YouTube to MP3 Converter. Obtain the application directly from the software developer website (see link in Resources).

  • Launch YouTube to MP3 Converter. Paste the YouTube video URL into the “Drop Zone.” The application loads the online clip.

  • Click the cog wheel icon at the bottom of the program interface and choose “Preferences” from the drop-down menu. A “Preferences” window opens.

  • Select the “Music Output” tab. Click the “Choose” button and set a saving location for the ripped audio. In the “Convert others to:” section, select MP3, M4A or OGG as the format for the ripped audio. Click “Apply” then select “OK.”

  • Click the “Download” button (an arrow icon) alongside the loaded online clip. YouTube to MP3 Converter extracts the YouTube video soundtrack and exports it as a digital media file to your computer. Retrieve the ripped audio from the set saving location.

Video2mp3

  • Launch an Internet browser and visit the Web page for the YouTube video. Copy the URL to your system clipboard.

  • Visit the Video2mp3 website (see link in Resources). Scroll down to the “Enter the URL of the video you want to convert to MP3” and paste the YouTube video URL.

  • Choose from the “Standard Quality” or “High Quality” options and click “Convert.” Video2mp3 extracts the YouTube video soundtrack and displays a link to download an MP3 file. Click the download link and follow the on-screen instructions to copy the media to a desired saving location.

Tips & Warnings

  • there is a MUTE button that you can use so you dont have to listen to the song while it is playing at full volume.
  • dont worry about making other noises, as the program will only record audio from safari or whatever program you choose.
  • Before you rip audio from a YouTube video, make sure that the activity is not in violation of the Fair Use doctrine. Although you are free to view and share the material from the website, it is unlawful to reproduce, re-distribute or monetize any content that you do not own the rights to. While you can lawfully copy YouTube videos for your own personal, non-commercial use -- you should obtain reuse permission from the content’s copyright owner if you have any uncertainties about legality. Nonetheless, you are free to re-purpose any YouTube video that is uploaded with a Creative Commons license.
