Coenzyme Q10, also known as ubiquinone, is a natural, fat-soluble antioxidant produced in the body. It has been shown to be helpful in treating heart disease, cancer, allergies, diabetes and mental disorders.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Peanut Butter
  • Coenzyme Q10

Step1
Take supplement with oily or fatty foods, such as fish or peanut butter.
Step2
Buy CoQ that's labeled Q-Gel or hydrosoluble. These forms are water soluble and have a better absorption rate than the other forms.
Step3
Inspect the CoQ before purchasing. Its natural color is a dark yellow, which would be its purest form.
Step4
Buy a brand that contains a small amount of added vitamin E. This helps preserve the CoQ.
Step5
Check your medications. Certain drugs, such as antidepressants, beta-blockers and cholesterol-lowering medications can interfere with absorption. You may need to take a higher dose.
Step6
Keep CoQ away from heat and light. It is perishable.

Tips & Warnings

  • Best food sources of CoQ are mackerel, salmon and sardines. Other sources are beef, peanuts and spinach.
  • Recommended dose for an adult is 60 to 120 mg.
  • If symptoms persist or if you have specific medical conditions or concerns, you should contact a physician. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
