Chipboard is a thick and strong paperboard that scrapbookers use to make page accents. Many craft projects and products are made with chipboard, including boxes. You can use chipboard to make a small box that you can use as a decoration in your home, or to give a gift in.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Heavy-duty hole punch
  • 5 5-by-5-inch chipboard squares
  • Twine
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and sticks

    Making a Chipboard Box

  1. Step 1

Punch three holes along one edge of one of your squares. Punch the first hole 1 inch from the corner and a hole every inch after that; the last hole also should be one inch from the edge. The holes should be 1/4 of an inch from the edge. Repeat this process on two other sides of the square and on three sides of three more squares. Don't punch holes in the last square, which is the bottom of your box.

  2. Step 2

Connect all the squares together to form a box, with the un-punched sides of the squares being the top edge of the box. Put thin lines of hot glue along the inside of the corners. Hold the sides of the box together until the hot glue cools.

  3. Step 3

Cut four strips of twine that are 20 inches long. Fold the strips in half to find the middle point. Lace up the sides of the box, just as you would a shoe, starting with the twine inside the box, and ending with a bow on the outside of the box, at the top.

  4. Step 4

Trim any excess twine from the tails of your bows, and your box is complete.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Crop-a-Dile II Big Bite is a heavy-duty hole punch that will punch through chipboard easily. Before punching your holes, cover both sides of your squares with decorative paper, using spray adhesive. You also can use ribbon instead of twine to lace up the sides.
