How to Speed Up Download Time for Free
The Internet allows you to download music, videos, software and applications easily. Nothing ruins downloading online content like slow connections speeds and poor CPU performance caused by viruses, trojans and spyware. By following the steps below, you can increase the download speeds and avoid waiting hours for a download that should have take minutes to complete.

1
Close most running programs before you begin downloading from the Internet. Many running programs consume great amounts of system resources that could be used for downloading. Closing programs you are not using increases download speed by freeing system resources.
-
2
Close extra browser windows you may have open.
-
-
3
Download one item at a time. Because downloading programs consumes large amounts of resources, it is not advisable to download more than one item at a time, especially if you have a slow Internet connection such as dial-up.
-
4
Upgrade to faster Internet connections such as DSL, cable modem or satellite if you have slower connections such as dial-up. Faster Internet connections will even allow you to download multiple files at the same time.
-
5
Download and install free download accelerator programs such as SpeedBit Video Downloader (see Resources below). This progam installs easily on your computer and launches automatically on your web browser. When you begin downloading, it speeds up the download process and displays the word "Accelerate" as your download proceeds.

6
Optimize your computer by scanning for viruses, trojans and spyware that deter computer performance. If you don't have an antivirus program to perform these functions, download and install "AVG Antivirus Free" (see Resources). Launch your program after it has installed and perform full system scans. Delete all detected malicious parasites.
