Hooking up your phone to a stereo amplifier is a simple way to broadcast a conversation or a message.

Whether you want to blast your friend's voice over the stereo system or are trying to broadcast a phone call for a meeting, connecting a telephone to a stereo amplifier is quick and simple. You will need only one special piece of equipment: a male-to-male mini stereo cable that will send the signal from the phone to the stereo. This is the same type of cable commonly used to connect mp3 players to speakers or to car stereos, and you can find the cables almost anywhere electronics are sold.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Male-to-male mini stereo cable or mini-jack-to-RCA cable
  1. Step 1

Find the port or ports on the back of the amplifier that say "audio in." If there is a single port, you will need a single male-to-male stereo cord. If there are two ports, you will need a mini-jack-to-RCA cable. This cable is similar to the single one but has two connectors on one end and a single connector on the other.

  2. Step 2

Plug one end of the male-to-male cable into the amplifier, or if your amplifier has two ports, plug both of the dual connectors in.

  3. Step 3

Make sure all the other connections at the back of the amplifier are secure and were not loosened when you pulled it out.

  4. Step 4

Locate the headphone jack on your telephone. On most phones there will be a small symbol in the shape of headphones, but on some phones there will be nothing but a small round hole the same size as the end of the male cable connection.

  5. Step 5

Plug the cable into the headphone jack on the telephone.

  6. Step 6

Turn the amplifier and the stereo on.

  7. Step 7

Turn the phone on or lift the receiver. The sound of the phone should travel through your stereo.

Tips & Warnings
  • Leave the phone and the stereo off while you make the connections so you don't accidentally damage either one.
  • Don't stand too close to the stereo with the phone or you are likely to get feedback.
