Step 1
-- Decide What Room You Are Starting With --
Decide what room you want to start with. The size and shape of the room will decide what size memorabilia you decorate the room with. You do not want to take up too much space with decorations in your room, especially with rooms for your kids. The less there is to break, the better (which is also the bonus of decorating with cheaper and easier to decorate items. -
Step 2
-- Choose a Theme or Style --
Choose whether or not you want to decorate with a theme or with a certain style. Themes can be very fun to do, but does not always work in a room. Write down all of your ideas, so you can refer to it when you are shopping for your items and memorabilia. -
Step 3
-- Wall Space --
Decide whether or not you want to decorate the walls of the room with paint or with posters, pictures, or art. You can do both, but you do not always have to combine the two, and posters come in all shapes, sizes, colors, styles and themes. Sometimes, depending on your budget, the cheaper way to go is the better way to go. Which brings me to your next step! -
Step 4
-- Budget Before You Buy --
Make sure you sit down and decide what your budget needs to be. It does not need to be high, especially when you are decorating with posters and memorabilia. But setting one up is important because it is always easy to get carried away when you are shopping. -
Step 5
-- Research and Buy Online --
Research online for the cheapest items. There are always cheaper items online than in a retail store, and with just a little bit of research, you can find the best items for your dollar. I have done this process so many times, both in rooms in my home and in my dorm, and have found some of the best websites for posters, memorabilia, and more. Make sure to check it out! -
Step 6
-- Make the Decorating Fun --
If you are decorating with your children, make sure to involve them and make it an event! If not, make sure you are having fun with it, because a fun and happy mood will bring out the decorator in you and will help you in your quest to find the best places in the room for your new decorations! Good luck!
