How to Clean an Airbrush Gun

It is an extremely important part of the maintenance of your airbrush gun to plan for regular cleanings. If you fail to clean your airbrush gun, it will no longer operate properly, since it will have a buildup of dried paint inside of it. For a quick cleaning, you can just run some window cleaner through the airbrush gun. More thorough cleanings will require disassembling the airbrush gun.

Instructions

    • 1

Soak a cotton swab in paint thinner. Remove the bulk of the paint on the outside portions of the airbrush gun by running the cotton swab over the different parts. You will likely need to use multiple cotton swabs to complete this process.

    • 2

Blow a small cup size amount of window cleaner through the airbrush gun. As it works it way through the inside of the airbrush gun, a lot of the dried paint will be removed. Scrape away any paint buildup that gets stuck in the nozzle.

    • 3

Disassemble the airbrush gun. Most manufacturers allow you to disassemble an airbrush gun simply by unscrewing the paint cap, the nozzle and the back end. Refer to your manufacturer's guidelines for more specifics.

    • 4

Soak the smaller removable parts, such as the cap and nozzle, in a cup filled with paint thinner while you work on the rest of the gun. A cotton swab soaked in paint thinner will need to be run over the needle to remove paint and debris.

    • 5

Use a small bristle brush soaked with paint solvent to clean the inner body of the airbrush gun. You may want to flush out the inside with thinner as well by using a baster.

    • 6

Dry off all parts of the airbrush gun with a clean towel. Reassemble the airbrush gun.
