Instructions

    • 1

Draw a rounded upside-down triangle for the head.

    • 2

Make a larger upside-down triangle for the torso.

    • 3

Draw two rectangles to get the rough position and placement of the legs.

    • 4

Create the arms with ovals and circles for the hands.

    • 5

Sketch a flat teardrop shape for the hair.

    • 6

Draw a rounded rectangle and a triangle for the feet.

    • 7

Start drawing the outlines of the clothes. Study pictures to see where the folds would lie naturally. The outlines of the clothes are just squiggly lines that suggest that a garment is there. Make the clothing outline slightly outside of the body shape so that way the clothing appears to encase the body.

    • 8

Draw the arms and the hands on the character. The arms are made of rounded triangles and ovals to denote the muscles. The hands are made of an oval-like or triangle shape divided with small lines to form the fingers. Draw the muscles on the chest, which are just ovals coming out of the top of his shirt.

    • 9

Touch up the face by defining the chin and making the cheekbones more angular and pointy. Draw the hair, which is made by overlapping teardrop and triangle shapes. It should look pointy and have large chunky spikes when you are done. Place the ears on the sides of the face right underneath the hair.

    • 10

Draw a curved capital "L" shape that will become the nose. The mouth is just an arc, or a frown shape. Place the eyes in the rest of the space (just a basic eye shape), and draw two curved lines on the forehead for his furrowed brow.

    • 11

Make a stripe that goes down the entire shoe. Connect the triangle part to the top with two curved lines.

    • 12

Finish by drawing wrinkles in the clothing.

    • 13

Trace the entire drawing with a pen. Erase the pencil lines when the ink is dry and add color if desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice drawing wrinkles on clothes before you draw the figure (see Resources).
