Black History Coasters

Recycle, reduce, and reuse with this simple activity. Fun for kids on a rainy day. There are many ways be creative with this project. This is an idea to get you started. Think outside the box!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cardboard
  • Sheet protectors
  • Adhesive spray
  • Glue Stick/Super Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pictures/decorations of choice
  • Pencil
  • Circle template(4" diameter or less)
  1. Step 1

Take a flat piece of cardboard (moving boxes are handy or any reasonable sized cardboard item not in use). Using a circle template, trace the desired number of circles or as many will fit.

  2. Step 2

Cut out the circles with sharp, sturdy scissors.

  3. Step 3

Using magazines, photos, books, etc, find pictures or decorations to fit the entire coaster or just the center.

  4. Step 4

Arrange pictures and/or decorations with glue on each coaster. Use the plain side of the coaster for this step (no writings, markings or illustrations).

  5. Step 5

Take a sheet protector and cut one seam, so that it opens like a book.

  6. Step 6

Spray adhesive onto the sheet protector. Place coasters picture side down on the sheet protector.

  7. Step 7

Allow drying time per adhesive spray directions. Trim away excess sheet protector around the edges of each coaster.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use sandpaper lightly around the edges after trim to smooth.
  • Coasters don't have to be circles. Try different geometric shapes.
  • Paint is also an option before adhering coasters to the sheet protector.
