How to Change a Static IP Address
An IP address is an identifier that identifies your computer on the world wide web. They are available in two forms, "Dynamic" and "Static." A Static IP address can benefit you in many ways, such as allowing you to access your computer with ease from a remote location, and prevents server downtime that you can experience with its Dynamic counterpart. If you have multiple Static IP addresses, from time to time, you may have to change up the addresses on your computers. This is a task that can easily be accomplished.

Purchase another Static IP address from your Internet service provider. If you have already purchased a block of Static IP addresses, you can skip this step.

Open your computer's control panel. Open your "Network and Internet" settings. Select the option to "Manage Network Settings." The wording will slightly vary, depending upon which version of Windows you are running.

"Right Click" on the icon that represents your Internet connection. Select "Properties."

Click on "TCP/IP" to highlight it. Click on "Properties."

Ensure that the option is selected for "Use the following IP address." If it is not, you will have to select that option to activate the fields below.

Delete the current Static IP address by tabbing to the end of the box and hitting "Backspace" on your keyboard.

Enter your new Static IP address. If you are changing the Static IP address, you might also have to change the subnet mask and Gateway address. Click "OK" to exit out.

Click on the "Apple."

Select "System Preferences." Click on "Network."

Select the option to "Configure Manually" under the TCP/IP tab.

Delete the Static IP address that is currently in the IP address window. Type in your new Static IP address.

Click "Apply Now" to exit out.
