when I worked for www.laserpointerpen.net, and many customers complained that they nearly blind the cats' eyes with the high power green or red laser pointer, I suggest they use 5mw to 10mw laser pointer to toy with pets and 100mw to 700mw super powerful lasers to dazzle the enemies, esp. the attackers, for self defense.
Anyway, laser safety is a major concern for most high power laser lovers.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • a >5mw green, red or blue laser pointer pen at www.laserpointerpen.net
  • laser safety goggles
  • know how to use it creatively and safely: http://www.ehow.com/how_4526114_handle-laser-pointer-creatively-safely.html
  1. Step 1

You should know the danger of handheld laser pointers, esp. >100mw green lasers. As for Laser safety, it is the avoidance of laser accidents, especially those involving eye injuries. Since even relatively small amounts of laser light can lead to permanent eye injuries, the sale and usage of lasers is typically subject to government regulations.

Moderate and high-power lasers are potentially hazardous because they can burn the retina of the eye, or even the skin. define "classes" of laser depending on their power and wavelength. These regulations also prescribe required safety measures, such as labeling lasers with specific warnings, and wearing laser safety goggles when operating lasers.

You should be aware that it's not that dangerous if you use it with care. What makes the light from lasers so dangerous is that it has two unique properties.

    * Coherent and focused. The energy is focused on a very small area similar to the way a magnifying glass focuses the sun.
    * Collimated. The light does not spread out from a laser, it stays in a focused narrow beam that makes lasers almost as dangerous at a distance as close up.

  3. Step 3

Be careful and follow the first basic guidelines to ensure your safety.Never point your laser at another person, especially their face or eyes.

  4. Step 4

You'd better not look directly into the laser beam. Even if it is a low powered laser, it will be damaging if you stare at it for quite a while.Wear laser safety goggles when necessary.

  5. Step 5
    low power laser beam reflection

Always be conscious of and aware of reflective surfaces such as mirrors, polished metal or glass. A reflected beam can also harm your eyes.

  6. Step 6
    laser use limited

Only use a high powered green laser in a controlled environment.

  7. Step 7

Do not let other people, esp. kids, use your laser unless they are fully aware of the dangers of lasers.

  8. Step 8
    laser beam power

Laser beams can go for miles so never randomly use your laser outside.

  9. Step 9

Wear laser safety glasses if you are using your high power laser for dangerous applications.Any laser pointer or laser systems that emit a power level of >500 milliwatts or upwards can burn, cut and fabricate most materials including metals. These higher powered laser systems are the candidates for directed energy beam weapons. These Class4 lasers require a key switch functioning as remote control access port, time delay and an aperture shutter. The Yamataka series 500-700mw green laser pointers are good examples in enhanced safety and power high stability.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you adhere to these guidelines and exercise simple common sense and care, you will be able to enjoy and use your high power lasers in complete safety. They could certainly bring more funs to your life.
  • The fact that the laser is dangerous does not mean one should avoid using lasers and what you need do is use lasers with care.Be aware of their dangers and follow some basic guidelines to ensure your safety.
