How to Set Up a Private Auction on eBay

While eBay is traditionally a public trading square, there are times when buyers may desire privacy. For those auctions, eBay offers a private listing feature. While there is no way to block the identity of the seller under eBay's system, private listings assure that the identity of bidders remain hidden.

Instructions

      Click the "Sell" link on the eBay homepage to begin an auction.

      Follow the prompts to begin your auction, until you reach the "Create Your Listing" screen.

      In the "Choose how you'd like to sell your item" section of the "Create Your Listing" screen, click "Add or remove options" to call up the Add or Remove Options dialog box.

      Make sure that "Private Listing" is checked in the the Add or Remove Options dialog box, and then click "Save."

      Select "Allow buyers to remain anonymous to other eBay users" in the "Choose how you'd like to sell your item" section to activate the private sale feature.

      Complete your eBay sale listing as normal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember, you can never make the seller anonymous on eBay.
