How to Fold Tissue Paper to Attractively Stick Out the Top of Gift Bags thumbnail
Gift bags are becoming more popular in our time-crunched world.

Gift bags are ideal for giving oddly shaped gifts. Putting a gift in a bag is much faster than wrapping a present in wrapping paper, and it doesn't require a fancy bow. Gift bags are available in a wide variety of styles and prices. Some even come pre-packaged with coordinating tissue paper.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 to 3 sheets of tissue paper, depending on the size of the gift bag

Instructions

    • 1
Pick the right sized bag for your gift.

Choose an appropriate gift bag and coordinating tissue paper. Place your gift inside. Be sure it is big enough for the gift so you can completely hide it with the tissue paper.

    • 2
Pinch the paper lightly to avoid putting a hole in it.

Take a piece of tissue paper and lay it down flat. Pick it up from the center of the sheet and pinch it.

    • 3
If you don't like how it looks, try picking it up from a different spot.

Flip the sheet of tissue paper over and fluff it up. You may need to make a few attempts before it looks right.

    • 4
Place the tissue over the gift.

Place the tissue paper into the top of the gift bag. Be sure the paper does not slide too far down into the bag. You want it to stick out a little bit. If it goes too far into the bag, place a few extra sheets of tissue paper on top of the gift to add some height.

    • 5
Three sheets of tissue paper were used for this gift bag.

Repeat with as many pieces as needed to completely cover the gift. A small gift bag will need a single sheet of tissue paper. A larger bag will need more.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a fancier look, choose different colors of tissue paper or purchase some with a pattern. You can tape a card to the outside of the gift bag or place it inside. Gift bags are a great alternative for people with limited dexterity in their hands or fingers.
