When weaving a hammock, rather that using macramé knots, you will need different types of tools in addition to a weaving frame. A shuttle and gauge stick are used to weave multiple threads together. The gauge stick secures the thread's working knots.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine what size gauge you need for your project. Gauges are used to hold at least 20 loops of string. Choose the size of your gauge based on your project size and comfort level.

    • 2

For small projects, make a gauge stick that is 2 inches wide, approximately 6 inches long and about 1/8 inch thick.

    • 3

For larger projects, make a gauge stick that is 2 inches wide, 12 inches long and about 1/8 inch think. The added length will make it more comfortable to work on larger projects.

    • 4

Sand the surface of your gauge stick smooth. Round the edges with sandpaper.

    • 5

Use the gauge in conjunction with the netting shuttle to weave your hammock. The gauge holds the working loops, while the shuttle feeds the rope or twine in and out through the loops.
