How to Create a Norton Ghost 14 Boot Disk

The Norton Ghost 14 software program is used to backup the data stored on your hard drive in the event of a system crash or virus infection. The program also has an extra feature that allows you to create a boot disc on any standard blank CD or DVD which you can use to completely re-install your computer's operating system and wipe out every file on your hard drive if all of the data becomes corrupted and needs to be removed.

Instructions

1. Power on your computer. Insert the Norton Ghost installation disc into your computers CD or DVD drive. Wait for a new window to appear asking what action you want to take and click on the option to run the program. Follow the instructions that will appear on the screen to install the Norton Ghost 14 program.

2. Remove the Norton Ghost installation CD from your computer's drive. Put a blank CD-R or DVD-R into the drive, depending on whether you have a CD or DVD burning drive. Close the window that will pop up asking what you want to do without choosing any of the available options.

3. 

   Double-click the Norton Ghost 14 desktop icon. Wait for the program to load and then click on the "Tasks" button on the left side of the window. Click on the option labeled as "Create Recovery Disk" from the new Tasks menu that will appear on the screen.

4. Click on the "Next" button at the bottom right side of the window to bring up the boot disc creation wizard. Click on the button labeled as "Automatic" and then click "Next."

5. Click on "Browse" and then choose the location of your CD or DVD rewritable drive. Click on "Next" to begin the boot disc creation process. Wait for the disc to finish burning and then click on "Finish" to complete the boot disc creation process.

Tips & Warnings

• The Norton Ghost program will automatically detect all of the drives connected to the computer and store all of their driver software on the boot disk. Make sure to keep any external drives such as a USB hard drive connected to your computer while you run the boot disc creation wizard.

• The boot disc will not store the specific files and programs installed on your computer, only the software drivers required for your hardware to operate properly. You should make periodic backups of your important files to an external source as a USB jump drive in case you ever have to re-install your computer's operating system using the boot disc.
