Confetti eggs (also known as cascarone) are a most delightful treat for kids. These eggs are filled with confetti and then smashed over someone's head during Spanish festivals. I was first introduced to them at Fiesta in Santa Barbara, California and have loved them ever since. You can buy them, but they're also quite easy to make yourself.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A dozen large eggs
  • Colorful confetti
  • Tissue paper
  • Glue
  1. Step 1

Using a cake tester, poke a hole in both the top and bottom of your egg. Blow out the contents of the egg into a bowl. You'll be able to use the eggs for omelets so don't throw them out! No reason to waste them like that. Repeat with all of your eggs--I like to do a dozen at a time.

  2. Step 2

Rinse your eggs and set them on the counter safely to dry (make sure they can't roll off the counter or you won't have confetti eggs, you'll have eggshell confetti all over the floor!).

  3. Step 3

Glue tissue paper over one of the holes on each of your eggs.

  4. Step 4

Using a funnel, fill each egg about half way with confetti.

  5. Step 5

Glue tissue paper over the remaining hole on each egg.

  6. Step 6

Once the glue has dried, you can decorate your confetti eggs. This is great fun for kids, and you can do it with an Easter egg kit or with food coloring, paints, or more glued on tissue paper.

  7. Step 7

Use your confetti eggs at a party--probably outdoors ;-)--and don't actually crash them into someone's head (that can hurt), but instead crush them in your hand right above someone's head so that the confetti still rains down on them, along with the blessings of the cascarone!

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep your decorated eggs in the egg carton for easy storage--it'll keep them safe and ready to use.
