Wearing sewn-in extensions can add body, length and luster to your hair. However, one must follow a specific braiding pattern so that the extensions will fall properly and blend with the rest of the hair. Follow these easy instructions for braiding hair for sewn-in extensions.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rat-tail comb
  • Hair clips
  • Sewing hair needle
  • Thread
  1. Step 1

Wash the hair and blow dry it straight. Do not add any styling products to the hair after blow drying. Hair oils will make the hair too slippery to grip when braiding.

  2. Step 2

Part the hair in equal sections. Depending on the style of the extensions, the parts will be different. A entire head of sewn-in extensions can be parted in a circular pattern, while a partial head of sewn-in extensions is usually parted from left to right and straight across.

  3. Step 3

Use hair clips to hold the section of hair that is not being braided. For the section that is being braided, take a rat-tail comb to make the part straight and even.

  4. Step 4

Take a small section of hair from the section that is going to be braided if braiding from left to right (or vice versa). Divide the hair into three very small sections.

  5. Step 5

Add hair to each of the three pieces. After following through with each section, continue to add hair to each of the three sections until the entire cornrow is finished. Pull a tad bit harder for tighter braids (the tighter the braids, the longer it lasts).

Tips & Warnings
  • Although tighter cornrows for sewn-in extensions will help the style to last longer, it can also be damaging to the hair. Tight cornrows often pull around the edges and cause the hair to shed.
