Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Begin by visiting www.aol.com. Go to the small box marked "My Stuff" and left-click on the icon for AOL Mail. You will be directed to a page that asks you to sign in or "Get Free AOL Mail." Left-click on the box marked "Get Free AOL Mail." You can also scroll down to "Services" on the left side of the webpage and left-click on the box marked "Get Free Mail." You will be directed to the sign up page.

  2. Step 2

Fill out all required fields under "Create a Free Email Address." Try to be original when creating your desired email address. For instance, John Doe@aol.com may be taken. So try JohnDoe1@aol.com or JohnDoe99@aol.com. Adding numbers helps you obtain an email address you prefer.

  3. Step 3

Choose an account security question that can be easily answered. You can be very specific with your answer to a question. For instance, "What is your favorite food" or "Where did you grow up" can be answered by typing "I love pizza" or "Oregon baby." This helps to keep hackers and unauthorized people out of your account.

  4. Step 4

Complete the verification information section. Type the code as seen by using uppercase and/or lowercase letters. A green check mark will appear after you have completed every blank.

  5. Step 5

Read the Terms and Services Agreement to complete your registration. As you read the Terms and Services, you will see that there are three components to the agreement. There is the Membership agreement, Community guidelines and Privacy policy. Be sure to read all the information, including the small section titled "Billing and Charges," before agreeing to open an account.

  6. Step 6

Once you have signed up you can begin to send and receive emails to your cell phone, add unlimited emails and pictures and create a buddy list for AOL Instant Messenger. Access AOL Entertainment for all of your entertainment news. Conduct research with AOL's search engine and check out a host of your favorite music artists with AOL Video.
