Things You'll Need:
- Hairspray, elastic rubber band, optional: rat tail comb.
-
Step 1
Make sure the hair you are going to braid is clean and dry. A wet braid will tighten as it dries, and may cause pain.
-
Step 2
Starting at the top of the head, determine if you would like to leave some hair out of your braid, such as bangs. Starting at the top of the head take three small strands of hair, about 1/2 inch wide. Start braiding the strands as you would a normal braid.
-
Step 3
Using your pinky fingers, or a rat-tail comb, start taking horizontal partings from the sides of the head and add them to your original three pieces of hair. The hair will always be added to the outside, or left and right pieces of your braid.
-
Step 4
Continue adding new strands of hair to your original braid until you have braided the entire head. It is good to smoothe the strands of hair with your fingers as you add them to your braid. This will help eliminate fly-aways.
-
Step 5
Use your elastic band to secure the braid. You can also roll the tail of your braid under, and tuck it in place with a bobby pin. This will acheive a nice up-do. Lightly spray the hair with hairspray, and gently smooth away any fly aways with the back of your rat-tail comb.
