How To Make a Fancy Artificial Flower Bouquet

Creating an artificial flower bouquet is not much different from creating a real flower bouquet with the notable exception that you will not need any water to keep the flowers alive. Still, there are some factors to take into consideration. A fancy silk (most artificial flowers are made from silk) flower bouquet must be put together carefully, because once created, it will be difficult to dismantle if a mistake is made.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Realistic silk flowers
  • Baby's breath
  • Willow corkscrews
  • Silk foliage
  • Floral foam
  • Container or bouquet holder
  • Wire cutter
  • Floral paper or decorative netting
  • Ribbons of your choice
  1. Step 1

Choose high quality silk flowers in realistic colors. The more expensive the silk flowers, the higher quality they will be. Fancy floral bouquets usually contain traditional, formal flowers such as roses, so choose accordingly. Roses, peonies, baby's breath and even silk orchids in soft, realistic colors--not jarring--make the best bouquets.

  2. Step 2

Go for quantity. For a fancy bouquet, you want a lot of flowers but not a wide variety of flowers. Instead, choose a lot of roses in two colors and add a few peonies or carnations in a similar shade. The more flowers you have, the more beautiful your bouquet will be.

  3. Step 3

Prepare the container. Add some floral foam to a bouquet holder or a vase. If using a vase, anchor the base of it with something heavy, as fancy bouquets have a tendency to tip over. Try anchoring it with clay, pebbles or marbles.

  4. Step 4

Arrange the flowers. Use a wire cutter to bend or clip the stems in order to make them fit. Insert them into the floral foam. Start with the center of the arrangement, which should feature your most stunning flowers. For example, try grouping some pink and white roses together, then surround them with baby's breath. Add taller flowers behind the focal flowers, such as silk larkspur, tall silk ferns, blades of tall grasses or corkscrew willow twigs. Fill in the spaces with more baby's breath and foliage. Keep the colors to one or two, three at the most.

  5. Step 5

Finish off the arrangement by wrapping the bouquet in fancy paper, netting or both and tying it off with a beautiful ribbon. Alternately, if your arrangement is in a vase, tie a ribbon around the neck of the vase.

Tips & Warnings
  • For an elegant look, try a bouquet made of only one elaborate orchid surrounded by a few blades of grass. For an unusual look, use soft feathers as filler instead of green foliage.
