If you find that your computer keyboard has suddenly locked up and is not working but you're not sure why, there are two things you should check. First, ensure that you have not inadvertently turned on something like StickyKeys that can affect how the keyboard works. Then, verify that the On-Screen keyboard is activated and disabling your actual keyboard.

  1. Checking StickyKeys and Accessibility Options

      Click Start.

      Select "Control Panel."

      Double-click "Accessibility Options."

      Ensure that all the boxes are unchecked.

    Checking the On-Screen Keyboard

      Click Start.

      Select "All Programs."

      Select "Accessories," then "Ease of Access," then "On-Screen Keyboard."

      Click the "X" in the upper-right to close the On-Screen Keyboard.
