Keeping the items you wear in order is essential to being organized and well groomed. There are various ways you may choose to organize your shoes, such as shoe racks. One way to maintain your shoes in order while protecting them from dust and other types of damage is by storing them in shoe boxes. You may wish to trade the boxes your shoes come in for something made of a sturdier material. You may also, for some reason, have shoes that came with a damaged box or no box at all. If you would like to make your own shoebox, we offer easy-to-follow instructions.
Things You'll Need
- Sturdy material - cardboard, acrylic or a thin wood panel
- Carpet cutter knife or a miter saw
- Glue, small tacks and/or duct tape
- Laminated placemat
Gather all your materials. Cover your work surface with newspapers and the laminated placemat.
You'll start with the bottom of the box. Cut that piece into a 12 1/2-by-7 inches shape. Cut two pieces of 12 1/2-by-4 1/2 inches for the long sides and two pieces of 7- by-4 1/2 inches for the short sides. (The tool you use to cut will depend on the material you've chosen).
Begin by attaching the edge of one of the long side pieces to the edge of one of the long sides of the bottom piece. Use a thick book or a box to keep the side at a right angle from the bottom while it dries. Let it dry for at least an hour.
Repeat Step 3 until all the sides have been attached.
For the shoebox cover, you will also need to cut a 12 3/4-by-7 1/4 inch piece of material for the top and two 1-inch wide strips by 12 3/4 inches long and two 1-inch wide strips by 7 1/4 inches long.
Repeat Step 3 for all the sides of the shoebox cover. Once the shoebox is completely dry, you can decorate it as you please.
