Things You'll Need:
- Peroxide
- Hair dye
- Plastic cape or towels
- Plastic bowl
- Applicator brush
- Plastic gloves

Step 1
Choose the right shade of blond for your skin color. If you have darker skin, a shocking platinum won't look natural. Likewise, if you're pale, an ashy blond can wash you out.
-
Step 2
Decide which kind of hair color process you're interested in. Blond highlights look great on just about everyone, but they can be hard to do on yourself. All-over color can be wash-out, semi-permanent or permanent. If you're dying for the first time, you might try a hair color with less permanence. Ask a salon professional what shade complements your look and your lifestyle best, and always do an allergy test before trying any new dye product.
-
Step 3
Set up for hair dying by mixing up the color and covering your clothing. Wear an old T-shirt or a plastic cape like they give you at the salon. Wear plastic gloves while mixing and applying the color.
-
Step 4
If you have dark hair, bleach out your hair before you apply the blond color. Bleach powder is mixed with an activator and applied to hair. Read the instructions on the packet of hair bleach so you get the timing right.
-
Step 5
Apply hair color. Separate hair into thin sections, working from the top down. Apply with a brush for more control. Get as close to the scalp as possible, and get behind the ears and at the nape. Apply color evenly from root to tip. Read instructions to find out how long hair dye should stay on. Typically, it's about 20 minutes.
-
Step 6
Rinse out hair dye in tub or sink. Rinse until all dye is gone and water runs clear. Apply a deep conditioner to wet hair and rinse after about 10 minutes. Dry and style your new blond do.
