Things You'll Need:
- Two Large Avocados
- 2 tsp. lime juice
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 small tomato
- 1/2 of an onion
- A medium-sized mixing bowl
- A chopping knife
- A fork, butter knife, and spoon
- A chopping board
- Tortilla Chips!
-
Step 1
Make sure your avocados are ripe. They should be dark (purplish-brown to blackish green) and slightly firm, but have a little give when squeezed. You don't want them mushy, but neither do you want them too hard.
-
Step 2
Then chop the tomato and the half onion and place them in the bowl.
-
Step 3
Cut your avocados lengthwise around the pit. Take the two halves and twist apart. This should leave the pit in one side. Take your knife and carefully chop into the pit so your knife becomes a little stuck. Then, holding the knife buried in the pit, twist the avocado half. This should easily remove the pit. Repeat with the other avocado.
-
Step 4
Remove what is left of the stem. It should come out fairly easily. Take the butter knife and separate the flesh of the avocado from the skin. You are not scooping the flesh out yet!
-
Step 5
Take the knife and cut the flesh into cubes while it is still in the skin. Then scoop out the pre-sliced flesh into the bowl.
-
Step 6
Mix the avocado flesh with the rest of the ingredients in the bowl with your fork, mashing the avocado a bit in the process. If your avocado isn't too hard, this should be easy.
-
Step 7
Season with lime juice and salt to taste. The acid from the lime juice helps to preserve the guacamole.
-
Step 8
Serve!
