How to Start a Model Mayhem Account

If you're a model or a photographer, makeup artist, fashion designer, digital artist or other professional who wants to work in the modeling industry, networking is one of the best ways to further your career. Model Mayhem facilitates networking by providing a platform where artists can interact and collaborate. Members can meet fellow artists in message forums, post casting calls, arrange to meet each other while they're traveling and apply for projects in their local areas. Prospective members undergo an approval process that begins with establishing a Model Mayhem account.

Navigate to the Model Mayhem website (

Click the "Join!" link at the top right corner of the screen.

Create your profile by entering your name, email address, a password and your gender and birthday. Choose a profile type: model, photographer, makeup artist, etc. Click the red bar to select your membership level.

Choose a basic, premium, VIP or business membership. Basic membership is free and allows forum interaction and limited use of the site's other features. Higher membership levels are fee-based but allow you to post photos and make more frequent use of such features as private messaging and community announcements.

Check the email address you used to create your profile for a confirmation from Model Mayhem. You'll need this confirmation to verify your profile information.

Follow the instructions for the bio and photos you must submit to be considered for membership. Click the link to return to your profile. The site directs you to a profile submission page.

Use the links on the profile submission page to upload your photos and edit your profile. Add your biography to the profile. The site asks you to write about experience in the area you selected, your career goals and the reasons you want to joint Model Mayhem. Submit your profile for consideration.

Tips & Warnings

  • Prospective members who fail to include all the required information are denied membership, but they're invited to resubmit. Prospective members should consider their memberships to have been declined if their profiles are denied and they've not been asked to resubmit.
  • Members must be at least 16 years old.
  • Model Mayhem prohibits suggestive photos of models who are younger than 18 years old, and does not allow pornographic images.
  • Google indexes Model Mayhem's pages. The site recommends using a pseudonym if you don't want your Model Mayhem profile to turn up in Google searches of your real name.
