Who doesn't like cookie gift baskets? If you really want to see people's eyes light up, give them cookies gift baskets for that special occasion that is coming up. This article will tell you how to inexpensively recreate the pricey cookie gift baskets and make everyone happy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • basket
  • selection of cookies
  • cellophane bags
  • ribbon
  • napkins for lining basket
  • basket filler, either commercial from party store or popped popcorn
  • miscellaneous small gift items for bag like a mug
  1. Step 1

When making cookies gift baskets the first step is to find an attractive basket. Try re purposing baskets that you have received previously. If doing this, clean the basket of dust and any debris. They are fairly sturdy and can be wiped down with a damp cloth.

  2. Step 2

To line the cookie gift basket you will need sufficient napkins to cover the bottom and hang over the sides nicely. You can use either cloth napkins and have them be part of the gift or use the large heavy paper ones that are available. Pick something that goes with the occasion!

  3. Step 3

You will need cellophane bags to hold the cookies in your cookie gift baskets unless you are using prepackaged cookies. Cellophane bags can usually be purchased at part supply stores or where they sell wedding supplies. They are often used for wedding favors.

  4. Step 4

You will need a filler for the bottom of your cookies gift baskets. You can buy commercial filler at party stores. Or since this is an edible basket, you can use freshly popped popcorn to go along with the food theme. It needs to be air popped to avoid making the rest of the items oily.

  5. Step 5

Now you have to decide whether to go with home made or purchased cookies in your cookie gift baskets. You have several choices. There are fabulous bakeries to buy from. There are packaged gourmet cookies available at most groceries. There are also many good cookies in the regular cookie aisle. Select a nice assortment to make your cookies gift baskets interesting.

  6. Step 6

Select a few other gifts to go into your cookie gift baskets. You could add a package of hot cocoa and a mug or something that speaks to the occasion.

  7. Step 7

Now the fun begins. Line the cookies gift baskets with the napkins and fill it approximately half way full with filler.

  8. Step 8

If you purchased cookies and they came in small packages, keep them in their packaging. Otherwise, sort the cookies into the cellophane bags. Tie the bags off with ribbon. Now arrange them in a pleasing manner in your cookies gift baskets along with any other gifts. Step back and enjoy your work!

Tips & Warnings
  • Most people will be as excited by a basket full of purchased cookies as they would be by home made ones. The trick is to buy something a little unusual or special.
  • It is a good idea to find out if the person receiving the gift has food allergies.
  • Make sure the cookie gift basket is age appropriate.
