Small children add tons of fun to the Holiday Season. They also add a bit of stress when it comes to safety. This article will tell you how to completely childproof your Christmas Tree. From anchoring it to the wall to making everything on it completely edible! This Christmas tree is perfect for families who have several children under age 5.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Christmas Tree
  • Anchoring supplies
  • Sugar Cookie dough
  • Gingerbread cookie dough
  • Popcorn balls
  • Strings of Popcorn
  • Strings of Kix or other Cereal
  1. Step 1

First, I highly recommend anchoring your Christmas tree to the wall. See my article on how to do this: http://www.ehow.com/how_4668954_anchor-christmas-tree.html

  2. Step 2

Second, you will want to make sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies and any other fairly versatile decoratable cookie! Before baking them punch a hole in the top center of them. Although you don't want to use a pencil, make the hole about the diameter of the pencil. Remember when the cookies bake, the hole will close a little bit as the cookie rises.

  3. Step 3

After the cookies are decorated, baked, and cooled, string yarn through the holes and tie a knot in the yarn.

  4. Step 4

String popcorn and/or Kix or other cereal. Use as a garland around the Christmas tree.

  5. Step 5

Decorate the tree with the cookies and popcorn balls.

Tips & Warnings
  • Pre-cut the Yarn so that stringing the ornaments will go more quickly.
  • Have your children help as much as possible.
  • Blog or scrapbook the experience!
  • Pets may take a new interest in the Christmas tree so be aware.
  • Do not put food on your tree if you have a roach problem.
  • Don't use glass ornaments, Christmas Lights or tinsel-- the tree would not be childproof if you do!
  • Children may bite the cookies and place them back on the tree (So cute!)

on 12/10/2008 Anchoring is something I've never done. Good idea. This is what we came up with this year to save me grief.
