Learn how to make simple and great tasting fried okra. You can even use this recipe for fried squash as well.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Approx 4 cups of sliced okra (fresh)
  • Large spoon
  • Large bowl
  • 1/4 Cup of flour (any kind)
  • Small bowl
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups of bread crumbs
  • Vegetable oil
  • Salt
  • Medium non-stick frying pan
  1. Step 1

First, you will need to wash and slice your okra in 1/2 inch pieces. Put them in a bowl and add a little salt if desired. Toss them around to mix the salt in them. Add about 1 inch of vegetable oil into your frying pan and set aside until ready to fry your okra.

  2. Step 2

Next add the flour to the okra little by little while mixing with a large spoon. Try to spread the flour good on the okra by tossing the okra with the spoon in the bowl to mix it.

  3. Step 3

Then, you will need to beat the egg lightly in a bowl with a fork, pour it on the okra and mix with a large spoon. Mix only long enough to get the egg on all of the okra.

  4. Step 4

Now add 1 1/2 cups of bread crumbs to the okra and mix with a large spoon. Heat your vegetable oil until it is hot enough to fry the okra-375 degrees. When grease is hot, spoon the okra in and let it cook until golden brown. Remove and place on a plate with a paper towel to soak up the grease.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not stir the okra too much while frying. Just move it around enough to brown both sides good.
  • You may wish to separate the okra as you spoon it into the grease.
