Tie a Handcuff Knot

The handcuff knot is a loop knot which is used to to restrain the hands or feet of a person or animal. It's also known as a hobble knot because it was often used to tie the hind quarters of horses so that in the morning, their owners didn't have to walk far to retrieve them. It is a relatively easy knot which can be learned in three steps.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

First, make two adjustable loops in the center of your rope. Lay the right loop over the left loop.

  2. Step 2

Next, pull the left side of the right loop down through the left loop while pulling the right side of the left loop up through the right loop. It may sound a little confusing at first, but once you try it, it's really pretty simple.

  3. Step 3

Finally, put the two loops that you made in step one around your partner's wrists and pull out the slack. Congratulations! You just made a handcuff knot.
