How to prepare for the never ending war on fleas!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dry Vacuum
  • Wet Vacuum
  • Cedar Chips
  • Rosemary or Eucalyptus leaves
  • Flea Collar
  • Brewers Yeast
  • Lots and lots of Table Salt!
  1. Step 1

It all begins outside in the dog house. As this is where your animal can originally pick up these annoying insects. first wash out the dog house completely. Then sprinkle the table salt all over inside the dog house. (not too much). Then coat the floor of the dog house with those fresh pine needles (fleas hate these). Then Place those cedar chips, underneath and around the house. Cover the needles with your dogs favorite blanket or bed, ect. Then Place those cedar chips, underneath and around the house.

  2. Step 2

Now its time to take it inside the house. Start off by sprinkling the Brewer's Yeast into your animal's food before they eat it. What this does is once its absorbed into your pets body it makes their blood taste disgusting! So of course no blood sucking insect is gonna want to suck it then right? Something even better to do is actually rub the yeast directly into your pet's fur every morning.

  3. Step 3

Another idea is too put those leaves i told you about underneath underneath your pet's bed. (not completely necessary, just keeps fleas at bay as they hate the smell of those) But another key step is to VACUUM! If you have carpet, you pet will actually bring in the eggs from outside and drop them into the carpet. Where they sit and hatch into larvae, witch eat the poop from other fleas and eventually mature and spin cocoons. They can sit there anywhere from a few days to a few months, waiting until they can find a warm-blooded host to feed upon. aka. your pet.A female adult flea can lay up to 200 eggs during their lifetime. See the importance of vacuuming on a regular basis? ****Make sure you sprinkle some salt onto the rug before vacuuming to ensure that they die while inside that bag/storage compartment. Also be sure to use a wet vacuum and wash your rugs. I would recommend that you pour some salt down into the water/ cleaning fluid mixture to be sure to kill off any remaining fleas or eggs.

  4. Step 4

Some more basic methods is to wash your pet with salt-water, and soap. (Salt kills the fleas if you havent already figured out.) Be sure to rinse off you pet afterwards. Make your pet wears a FLEA COLLAR. These might not always be effective but can definitely be the first line of defense when it comes to complete infestation.

Tips & Warnings
  • During the process of washing down your pet, you will notice blood coming out as well as the dead fleas. THIS IS NORMAL! That is the flea's poop being washed out.
  • Be sure not to get the water into your dog's ear while bathing.
