Making Windshield Washer Fluid

Knowing how to make your own windshield washer fluid can come in handy, whether it is for financial reasons, or you are in a pinch at home and need some right away. By making your own windshield washer fluid and filling up before having to drive anywhere, you insure your safety and others by keeping your windows clean. Anyone can make it, and usually with items found in most households.

Things You'll Need:

• Bucket
• 3 cups household window cleaner
• Gallon of water
• Blue food coloring

1. Find your regular household window cleaner and pour 3 cups into a bucket. Measure, because if your mixture ends up with more window cleaner than water then your windows will be streaky.

2. Add one gallon of water to the window cleaner in the bucket. Mix thoroughly.

3. Add a few drops of blue food coloring in order to make the mixture blue. This is important because if your car is ever leaking fluids, the color can help you or your mechanic distinguish what it is, and where it is coming from.

4. Pour window washer fluid into the reservoir in the car, using a funnel. Test the mixture. If it leaves streaks, you know that you used too much window cleaner, or didn't mix the solution thoroughly.
