Things You'll Need:
- Comb
- Clip
- Styling spray
- Bobby pins
- Holding spray
- Curling iron (with large barrel)
-
Step 1
Start with semi-dirty hair. You do not want it to be oily, but not freshly washed either. Comb out your hair so it is free from knots and is easy to work with.
-
Step 2
Spray the top and back of the hair with a little flexible hold hairspray or styling spray and fluff the hair. Pull up a hand full of hair in the front of your head. If you have bangs like Sarah Palin, this will be a small section of hair behind your bangs.
-
Step 3
Twist this piece of hair either way until it is twisted all the way down to the end of the piece. Take a bobby pin or two and pin it where the twist stops to the head. This should be near the crown of your head (depending on your hair length). Twisting the hair makes a raised area for the up-do. Make it a little loose to cover the parts from showing on the sides.
-
Step 4
Make a ponytail by gathering all of your hair at the bottom of your head.
-
Step 5
Twist the hair up like you would when doing a French twist. Clip the twist in place or pin it to hold.
-
Step 6
Style the hair sticking out at the top. It should already look fine, but you can move it around a bit if you like.
-
Step 7
Fix your bangs. You need a little bit of bang on each side. Take a hot, big barrel curling iron to curl the bangs slightly under. Most of them should go to one side.
-
Step 8
Spray with a good holding hairspray.
