Instructions

    • 1

      Understand the principal -
Slowing your breathing will lower your blood pressure. You only need to do this for 20-30 minutes a day and the effects last all day. Focus on your exhale.

    • 2

Find a relaxing position (sitting or laying down but not while driving!)

    • 3

Take a deep breath allowing your stomach to expand.

    • 4

Slowly let the air release. Ideally, you will take only six breaths a minute which means exhaling for 10-15 seconds. Repeat for 20 minutes.

Tips & Warnings

  • It is easiest in the beginning to sit in front of a clock with a second hand. Trying to count seconds while exhaling can cause stress and therefore loose the blood pressure lowering effects. After you have done it several times, you will be able to know when you are spending enough time exhaling.

  • Remember that you are not expected to breath like this all day long. 20-30 minutes a day will help lower your blood pressure average!

  • The usual warnings - this is not to be used in place of medical advice.

  • There are many companies selling products to help you - one has a machine telling you when to breath. Other are recordings telling you when to breath - you don't need to spend money on it... the principal is simple and free!
