Things You'll Need:
- base yarn or thread, at least four times the finished length needed
-
Step 1
Cut a piece of the base yarn at least four times your desired finished length.
-
Step 2
Fold the length of yarn in half, and hold the two loose ends tightly between two fingers of your left (or non-dominant) hand.
-
Step 3
Put the index finger of your other hand in the loop at the other end of the yarn and circle your hand so that the yarn twists.
-
Step 4
Keep twisting until it is tight against the finger in the loop. Ease your finger out of the loop and carefully, without letting go of the other end, match up the two ends of the twisted piece of yarn and hold it tightly between your fingers.
-
Step 5
Let go of the doubled end of the yarn - the cord should begin to form on its own. Smooth it out so that the twists are even and tightly knot the loose ends.
-
Step 6
Depending on how you intend to use your cord, you can finish it in a number of ways. To make a necklace, use end caps that can be purchased at any craft store. If you're making a drawstring for a pouch, thread it through the casing or eyeholes and tie the ends together, and trim it.
