Having proper first aid and tools for emergencies when outdoors is a must. Whether you are camping, hiking, on an off-road trail, fishing or engaging in other activities which could cause injury, you need a well-stocked pack with everything you may need should an emergency occur. A backpack is a smart and handy way to do this because it can be easily stored in your trail rig, or worn when cycling or hiking. Use a quality, rugged water-resistant material pack for best protection.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Backpack or bag
  1. Step 1

Purchase a good quality backpack that has water-resistant and rugged material that will survive some abuse. The safer your emergency supplies, the safer you are.

  2. Step 2

Put in a small mirror, whistle, compass and a book of matches or lighter. These can all aid in getting you rescued should you get lost in the wilderness, and the ability to make fire can also save your life.

  3. Step 3

Fill it with first aid items such as several sizes of bandages, adhesive tape, a bandage wrap, Bactine, a pain reliever such as Tylenol or ibuprofen, antibiotic ointment and burn cream, and a razor blade or Exacto knife.

  4. Step 4

Pack it for cold weather with gloves, a beanie, thermals and a thick blanket. Extra socks and a sweater are also recommended.

  5. Step 5

Put in toilet paper, snacks like granola bars or food rations, as much water as is reasonable, a hand-held CB radio, an LED flashlight and sunscreen.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure everyone you are with knows the location of the pack and its contents so it can be quickly located in an emergency.
  • Check and restock the pack each time you go out.
