Keeping the Hyundai Santa Fe well maintained gives it a long life of trouble free driving. Check the coolant hoses twice a year and replace the hoses at least every four years. The drain plug on the Hyundai Santa Fe is located on the bottom right side of the radiator and must be accessed from beneath the truck.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Allow the engine to cool for an hour after driving and remove the radiator cap. Place a bucket or catch can under the radiator drain plug and release enough coolant to keep leaking to a minimum when removing the hoses.

  2. Step 2

Loosen the hose clamps with a pair of pliers or a nut driver on screw clamps. Slide the clamps off the fitting and let them hang from the hose. Pull and twist the hose until it releases from the nipple. Cut difficult to remove hoses with a knife and peel the rubber over the fitting.

  3. Step 3

Prepare the new hose by dipping the ends into clean coolant and slide the clamps over each end. Push the hose onto the fittings. Turn the hose around if one end is too tight. Tighten the clamps with a nut driver or a pair of pliers on spring clamps.

  4. Step 4

Close the radiator drain plug if necessary and refill the radiator with coolant. Replace the radiator cap and start the Hyundai Santa Fe. Check for leaks around hose fittings and add coolant if needed when the radiator circulates.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always dispose of used coolant properly by taking it to a local collection center.
  • Radiator coolant is toxic to pets and other animals attracted to its taste. Always store used coolant in a sealed container and clean up any spills in the work area.
