How to Rotate Tires on a Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V gave SUV lovers a smaller alternative to the larger SUVs on the market in the late 1990s. Rotate the tires every 5,000 miles to keep them in good condition. When you rotate the tires, check to make sure they are all the same size and same kind of tires. Use these steps to rotate tires on four jacks instead of a hydraulic lift.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Lug nut wrench
  • Four floor jacks
Step1
Use a lug nut wrench to loosen all the nuts on each of the tires.
Step2
Place a piece of wood behind the back tires to keep the car from rolling while you jack up the front of the car.
Step3
Put a jack under both sides in the front of the car and jack it up enough to remove the tires. Lift the rear up with two more jack stands.
Step4
Move the passenger side rear tire to the front, and passenger side front to driver side rear. Switch driver side rear tire to the front and driver side front to passenger side rear. Repeat this "X" pattern each time you rotate the tires. Rotate the tires from side to side if the tires are different sizes on the front and rear.
Step5
Tighten the lug nuts by hand just enough so the tires remain in place.
Step6
Lower the rear end first and replace the wood behind the tires. Lower the front end. Tighten each lug nut to its tightest fit with the lug nut wrench.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never use bumper jacks to raise the SUV.
  • Switch tires from side to side if the rear tires are a different size than the front tires.
  • Only rotate tires from front to back if you have unidirectional tires.
