Apple crisp is an excellent way to make an easy apple dessert.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • - 1 cup orange juice
  • - 10 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • - 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, packed
  • - 3 cups oatmeal, regular (old fashioned)
  • - 1 cup unsalted butter
  • - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • - 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • - 1 package (14 oz.) caramels, quartered
  1. Step 1

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Step 2

    Mix together flour, brown sugar, oatmeal, and spices. Add in butter until mixture is crumbly.

  3. Step 3

    Grease 9 x 13 baking pan.

  4. Step 4

    Put 1/2 of crust mixture into greased pan.

  5. Step 5

    Place a layer of apples on crust.

  6. Step 6

    If you are adding caramel, place layer on top of apples.

  7. Step 7

    Sprinkle crumb mixture on top of layer.

  8. Step 8

    Repeat layering of apples and caramel. Top with rest of crumb mixture.

  9. Step 9

    Pour orange juice over top.

  10. Step 10

    Bake for 50-60 minutes.

  11. Step 11
     

    Best served warm, but can be served room temperature.

on 8/19/2008 I've actually made a dish like this using yellow apples, but never have I tried added caramel. It sounds like an interesting addition and a good fun recipe. thanks for sharing
