Not like all the other brides.
Not like all the other brides.

Perhaps your style is more rock 'n roll than sweet and innocent. Or maybe you just don't want to do the same thing that all the other brides who you know have done on their wedding day. In this case, you would want your bridal makeup to match your personality and perhaps even a gown that is anything but traditional. No worries for those who don't want to disappoint guests and relatives with a conventional mentality--you don't have to use these tips all at the same time! One or two combined will go a long way.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small sparkly decals
  • Skin-safe adhesive
  • Finely milled shimmer powder or gel
  • Black liquid eyeliner
  1. Step 1

Find a spot on your face where you would like to place a very small sparkly decal glued on with a skin-safe adhesive. The outer corner of one eye is a location you can try. The more adventurous can apply a set of rhinestone decals in the shape of something pretty, like a butterfly, on a patch of exposed skin on your back if your dress allows.

  2. Step 2

Use finely milled shimmer. You may not want to apply it on your face, as this affects how photogenic you appear, but a bare decolletage and arms are some ideal spots for this.

  3. Step 3

Try a cat's eye with black liquid eyeliner. Keep the rest of your makeup in line with the way a bride is normally recommended to wear hers, but draw attention to your eyes by defining them as such. While you're at it, you could choose to dot on a beauty mark slightly above and to the side of your lips. This paired with the winged liquid eyeliner gives a vintage feel to your look.

  4. Step 4

Take inspiration from the bridal makeup of other cultures. Indian and Arabic makeup, for instance, are very exotic to those who grew up and live in a different region of the world. Tone down and modify according to your preference and as suited to your dress, theme and ceremony. You might even want to hire an artist skilled in this style of makeup to help you get it as authentically as possible.

  5. Step 5

Go for unlikely colors, but wear them in the manner of bridal makeup. As an example, let's say you want to wear blue eyeshadow but don't want anything shocking just the same. Wear a very toned-down pastel blue instead of an electric blue. It is muted enough to not arrive in a room before you do, but the color is still visible.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use these steps to get ideas, but feel free to define your personal wedding style as you'd like. Brides don't wear white all the time anymore, so why should their makeup stay in the category of same old, same old?
